This is a one-day course for those wishing to become Radiation Protection Supervisors.

The content of the course covers the “core of knowledge” training for appointment as a Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) as specified by the Health and Safety Executive and is specific to X-ray systems only.

The objectives of the course are for the delegate to be able to:

  • Describe the nature and properties of X-rays
  • State the units of ionising radiation
  • Describe the biological effects of ionising radiation and to have an appreciation of the associated risks
  • Explain the different types of radiation monitoring equipment
  • Describe the importance of personal dosimetry and dose limits
  • State the requirements of the Ionising Radiation Regulations
  • Explain the role and duties of a Radiation Protection SupervisorThe course ends with a written assessment and issue of a certificate for successful delegates.This course is not suitable for persons wishing to be a RPS for any other use of radiation
